Definition
Cereal yield, measured as kilograms per hectare of harvested land, includes wheat, rice, maize, barley, oats, rye, millet, sorghum, buckwheat, and mixed grains. Production data on cereals relate to crops harvested for dry grain only. Cereal crops harvested for hay or harvested green for food, feed, or silage and those used for grazing are excluded. The FAO allocates production data to the calendar year in which the bulk of the harvest took place. Most of a crop harvested near the end of a year will be used in the following year.
What the series shows
The series runs from 1961 to 2024 (64 years of data). It moved from 1,856 to 6,038 kg/ha, a change of 225.2%. The highest value was 6,038 in 2024 and the lowest 1,681 in 1968. The comparison below sets Vietnam against 8 neighbouring economies on the latest available year.
Using it in a thesis
Indicators like this one are typical control or explanatory variables in macro and finance theses: merge the CSV with your other series on the year column, check for missing years before running a regression, and log-transform level variables that grow over time. If you use the series in a panel with other countries, take every country from the same source and vintage so the definitions match. Cite the original publisher, not this site, as shown below.
